Kya and her father developed a relationship through fishing. It’s the first time she’s felt some kind of family bonding since everyone else left. She needed someone. She needed to talk to someone. Kya is pretty much abandoned by everyone around her. She takes comfort in the marsh. The water. He serenity. She first loses her mother when she left and then all of her other siblings left. They all left because of an abusive and neglectful father. Kya learned so much from her mother and brother Jodie. She has trouble trying to fill that void of losing them.
