A decent read. Definitely more for the person who is new to the forestry world but I learned a bunch of history of the forests of the US. With a journalist perspective, it did feel like a good book to learn the basics but I guess I was hoping for a bit more depth.

The idea definitely fell flat on this one. I held on until the end, thinking that the uncle's will situation would become a point of interest...but instead it was a wonky mystery where I kept wondering about the main character. Only at the end did they reveal her background! They flipped a typical book by putting the intro at the end and it did NOT work.

Another good book in thise series. I enjoyed the cookbook- especially Carl's addition. Some of the combat lasted a bit long for me but the development of the socio-political structure of the game was a good balance. They comraderie with the other crawlers was nice to see. I look forward to seeing Katia develop in the next book!

The premise was interesting here but I wasn't as intrigued by the story as I was hoping for. The narrator's life story felt more like the focal point (almost to an autobiographical extent) than discussing heroines. I wanted more context of these heroines in society rather than through this particular lense. I still enjoyed the writing quality!

I enjoyed this historical perspective on feminism throughout the years with a modern writer. I WISH this book was even more relevant today but, as the end was a challenge to write, there was no wrapping this one up in a bow...

Not a bad sequel! Matt seems to be able to continue some originality within the genre and I look forward to seeing how this series stands out from other gamefied-battlefield fiction novels. The gore is a bit much for my taste, but it is nothing compared to what these novels would be as video games.

This was an interesting read, mostly because of when it was written. In the Obama-era, all of these interesting innovations and eco-pushed by companies seemed possible...now that seems out of reach. I even looked into a few of the apps they mentioned but they mostly have been discontinued(((((:

A great eco-read about transforming a landscape. I will say that the end leaves something to be desired...

What a variety novel! The history + female superiority + mystery was a cool combo. Their was quite a bit of hand holding for solving the murders but I actually think they did it well - returning to the board over and over. I didn't appreciate the language of the times, but I ubderstand why they used it.

I tried to get out of my normal comfort zone with this one but it was paced oddly - for example, she skips over events and then refers back to them as if they were shared in the book...i get that the history with the space wars is relevant, but the continuity was a bit off for me.

I am surprised that I enjoyed this book so much! I am not a gamer, but the graphic novel portion helped me visualize the novel portion. Such an interesting concept that plays off of Hunger Games/Ender's games but in a social media-esc landscape. I already requested book 2!

Overall, a decent read. I can see lots of sections that could be cut (like the ex-wife sections- they were there so we knew the author liked to Lindy-hop which was relevant but we didn't need an entire character just to get this point across) but the idea was interesting - exploring what could have been! I think this will kick off a few Stephen King reads for me.

I am HOOKED! This novel does a great job tying things together in (mostly) unexpected ways. I cannot wait to read how this ends!

I tend to get frustrated when a book is made entirely to set up the next book in the series. I understand not resolving everything, but it felt like the action had just started to get good when the book ended.

A great non fiction read that explores the family dynamics of hearing children with deaf parents. Chilling at times, the author makes this not into an autobiography, but is still able to bring the reader into her world.

SUCH a good re-read at a time like this

A re-read that is scarily relevant years later. Technology is taking over and people are too casual about it!

I appreciate that while this has a murder case in it, this book weaves many aspects of the southwest into a multi-character narration story. Anne also highlights the struggles of indigenous people, especially with falling through the cracks of drug therapy. She also well depicts cult culture and the challenges of caring for elderly parents. A great all-around read!

A silly read but a much needed mental break. The suspended reality of cat-solving crime was a good break from our current world

A great book for the New England spirit! I love the combination of history and nature that also ties to the mental health issues common up here

I really tried for the book club but wow. So much fighting that they lost any of my interest. A dnf if it wasn't a book club read. The setting on Mars was almost an after thought - I wanted to be dragged through the world but that didn't happen. And SO much slavery that did not need to be tossed around so casually.

I started this as a fan of other Kingsolver novels...maybe not the best reason but I also wanted to learn more about the day to day lives in the appalachian area where I went to school. This is a very sad tale that, while may be true to form, is getting so eaten up by the drugs use that it is overwhelming.
