There are never enough Nathan Hale books. Ever. I always finish them and am so sad and bummed that I don’t have another new one to pick up.

James is a damn sociopath. I swear. I could scream. Livid. Livid. Livid. Awful human. Oh, I am so livid. The awful never pay. He did all of this and was so calculated.

Reading this right now and while I’m so sad for what she has been through (and livid and outraged yet unsurprised), boy do I hope she writes more books. It’s ironic a senior in a creative writing class made a comment that discouraged her from her dream of becoming a writer because she’s a natural. I read about 100-150 books a year and a lot don’t stick out much but her narrative voice absolutely does.

I received this as a recommendation when I asked for “feel good” books. Reading it, that surprises me and doesn’t. There are so many painful moments and a lot of trauma but it’s so resilient and reflective. I’m in a part where I’m coming out of a time when the main character endured unimaginable pain. I had to pause several times but picked it right back up because it’s such a strongly written book.
