No book has ever made me almost vomit so many times. I’ve read a decent number of books like this so I assumed it would be tough but, like all the others, more devastating than absolutely grating. Most books on this topic are about the aftermath, focusing on how kids navigate developmental challenges in the midst of intense trauma. This focuses largely on the trauma itself and every page is hard to get through.
