At this point I'm just mad that the most emotionally impact aspect of this book for me was the epilogue, where the author recounts the first mycologists in America. Why didn't the author just write this whole memoir based around fungi???? 😭😭

Feeling such a disconnect while reading. I'm beginning to think that biology memoirs are just not for me. The idea they it's the author first, and the biology always comes second, just doesn't do it for me.

Will forever blow my mind that honeybees can communicate angles to a food source without the concept of numbers. It's all just spatial based communication and it's not even communicated visually either???

This book seriously blind sided me because books 2-4 were so small scale and contained in their conflicts that I didn't feel any build up to the police force suddenly just overthrowing the government??? This book feels like a hydrogen bomb got thrown at my head 😭 The previous books were baby coughs compared to this.

The ending of this book caught me so off guard, I'm gonna be so sad for the next few days 🥲

I was not expecting how dark and psychological horror this was gonna get. I really like the challenge this book gives of reading between the lines because even though the POV character is uncovering things they aren't understanding the full implications.

This book got me all stressed out over what's real and not real lmao.

Absolutely wild choice that the author decided to completely skip over exploring the emotional repercussions of protagonist's brother dying. No grieving, no regrets, hell not even a mention of what she did with the body.

I'm not that far in but just the historical background that inspired this book got me emotionally destroyed. I don't think any other stranded on an island narrative will ever be as impactful as this book for me.

Thats it??? Really??? What a whimper of an ending. If I didn't push through to read this for book club, I would have DNFed at 50% if I read this on my own.

This book has just devolved to kink based sex every other scene. LET ME OUT I HATE IT HERE 😭😭😭

My patience is running SO thin with this book. Everything about this book, the characters, the plot progression, it's all so frustrating.
