Empathetic to the point where she feels sympathy for frozen blueberries and can imagine being the sushi on a sushi train.

Are we sure the author doesn’t hate women?

Really easy book to read and the way the information dumping, world building, and character introductions are recurring is actually quite easy to that. Even though I’m finding a lot of similarities with other fantasy books, especially those with the dark academia kind of vibe, I’m still finding myself intrigued because it’s not exactly the same. There’s enough difference here that I’m quite into the story.

First time immediately drawn into this fantasy world a lot of things are feeling quite familiar to me. First of all the big chasm, feels very much like the rift from grishaverse. The forbidden area on school grounds feel a lot like the forbidden forest from Harry Potter. I’m not claiming that Kate Golden has copied anything. I’m just saying that things feel familiar - also, I am enjoying it.

Just finished part five of the book. I still feel like I don’t fully know whether it’s direction is going, but this isn’t a bad thing because I also feel like I’ve been given hints and clues along the way. At one point, I thought I might’ve figured out something but then the main character, Matilda, literally talks about it and disproves it LOL either way I’m really enjoying this still!

Part three complete – things are coming together with how this book is from the same world as we were liars. I actually can’t remember that book at all other than the plot twist. I’m curious as to how they do link in, if there’s more depth there. Also, I’m calling Matilda and Tatum. I’m writing this down because I want to see if the book has become predictable or not in some of its aspects.

Part two is very short, but I do like how it is split parts because it helps me feel like I’m making progress with the book. I forgot to mention in the previous part that I enjoy how Matilda is an artist in our own right, like her father, interested in video games. I just love saying the subversion of gender stereotypes. Also, I predict that the taxi driver could is seen again and so is the Mercedes.

Just finished part one and I have to say I am completely hooked. I really like the random lists, I think they work, I just hope they don’t get too overdone. I really like how quickly Lockhart has been able to paint the picture of Matilda‘s mum being unreliable – however you can also understand because the mother was so young. I’m intrigued by the father figure. We’re moving at a pace. I can get behind.

It reminds me of the innocence presented in coming of age stories, or maybe perhaps the naivety is a better word. I feel like I can almost taste this book. It’s set in France on the seaside, and whilst the author is shot in their descriptions, they are very effective. I am also intrigued by the past tense 1st person right of style as it feels like we are building up to a omething.
