This is my first semester of not teaching this book in three years and I am literally craving it??? Who am I to fight my destiny. Being a teacher is a wild ride, y’all.

Sissy Spacek deserves an award for her audiobook version.

Wow. What started as an interesting first-person account of a child’s experience with Maoist rule in Canton has grown very dark. Setting this aside for the day, but excited to pick it back up later.

I have been bullied into bumping this to the top of my TBR

This book will never not make me cry. It is an enormous testament to the story and writing that, even reading it every semester, I love it more and more as time goes on.

I feel like I’ve finally made it as a teacher. A student, unasked, brought me HIS favorite book and told me I should read it because he thought I’d like it. Another student saw and started gushing about how much she loved it when they read it in middle school. And not only is the setting local, it was written by a graduate of the high school at which I teach! Vvv excited

Yesterday, I discovered the true purpose of homeownership: your mother (a saint who had held on to your belongings for years) handing you a box of manga you haven’t even thought about in over a decade.

The temptation to reread some as an adult is TOO GREAT. Ruin and Rising audiobook who? Throne of Glass reread where? Will only be logging/rating book one despite reading the whole series.
