The first few chapters where Johnathan Harker is in Dracula's castle are iconic, intriguing, and genuinely great. Once the narrative moves to England for the rest of the book, it's so boring and poorly paced that I truly struggled to finish it. In addition, the ending is extremely anti-climactic. It's no wonder that most adaptations and pop culture references focus almost entirely on the stuff at the beginning.

It's hard to say if I liked the book because I saw the movie and it was easy to visualize everything as a result of that. I don't know if the book is entirely adequate in describing everything that happens without using the movie as a companion to it, and I suppose I can never know that. Regardless, I enjoyed it.
