I read a mystery book while driving through Wyoming one day in the summer of 2022 about boys on an Indian reservation in New Mexico. I can only remember three things about it: I got it out of a little free library, the chase sequence through the landscape was beautiful, and that the story was simply very good. Thinking about it today. Consider this my goodreads review that never happened.

This is AMAZING! Zadie Smith burning her apartment in Italy down on accident, David Adjaye on north african markets, Jehane Noujaim on the egyptian revolution's Tahrir square and Elif Shafak on riots over a park's death sentence. leaves nothing more to be desired. Alas could only get thus far in my time having it checked out of LPL. I will resume via .epub imminently!

It’s really not a well-written biography- it reads more like a CIA report on a life lived; special emphasis on achievements and relations. But alas! A magnificent life is interesting nonetheless!

Today I found this book in the back of a cupboard in the University of Nevada Las Vegas Institute of Religion building.

I’m convinced the primary way you can make me zealously read a book is to make its suggestion or very arrival into my hands seem improbable. Then I’ll read it…

“A portrait of the artist as a ___” … no.
Why can’t you just write “A portrait of a _______ artist”
You surely did not write the book to add to the literary discussion on the life of “the artist”

I completed Vienna: Slow Capital by the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.. Very smart project visualizations. We get it that Vienna struggles in its position of European capital!

anticipated shaming: the presence of CCTV may induce people to take elementary security precautions, for fear that they will be shamed by being shown on CCTV as being careless

while i can’t review it bc it is not a officially nationwide published work, ‘African American Survivors and Victims of Quantrill’s Raid on Lawrence’ by Jeannie Klein is a pretty remarkable collection of the untold stories of the African Americans that lived in Lawrence in 1863. While it is more academic than enrapturing, the amount of first hand accounts that Klein compiled was super interesting.
