Not even a quarter of the way into this book and I’ve cried like four times. Goddamn.

Extremely cold. Characters have no deeper personality. Nothing makes them sympathetic. Boring, tough-guy story without emotion. I just don’t care about any of it.

This kind of sci-fi, aside from being a male-centric tough-guy fantasy, is unbearably cold. The main character is a caricature of violent masculinity, lacking personality and interest. What am I supposed to like about him? His violence? His overt maleness, which seems to depend in part on his violence and in other part on his sexuality, which is essentially just lust for young (vaguely teen-looking) women. Boring.

Just documenting this now bc it’s annoying me but… she’s looking down the sight of the shotgun?? To aim it?? And when she shoots, the shell hits her target??? Bro google is free.

Oh my god stop fucking closing one eye to aim your shotgun this is literally going to kill me. I get it we’re being vulnerable and romantic but I need y’all to know enough about guns to not give me an aneurysm while reading.

Y’all we can’t keep doing this. So far good, but it’s clear this author knows little about guns and has a lot of incorrect info. I can’t keep reading books where the authors write about things I know about wrong. Someone help.

Ok so characters and plot are interesting enough so far, but they keep saying incorrect stuff? Like lady Macbeth “doesn’t have a single moral qualm about murdering Duncan.” False. She actually kills herself because of her guilt. She pretends to be unphased but remarks that he looks like her father, which makes her hesitate. Like, if this entire book is about Shakespeare, can it at least be accurate??

Maybe I’m just not built for romantasy or maybe this one sucks :/

Okay so Cassian’s entire attraction to Nesta is about how hot she is and how good her boobs and butt look and how hot she look in his bed and blah blah blah…like that’s kinda super objectifying, especially when he hasn’t listed like a trait of hers that he likes or anything. He just wants to have sex with her. Chivalry might be dead. This shit is not romantic. Also why so much public talk about jerking off?:/

Why is it low-key as good as I remember. Still kinda cringe but like I’m enjoying.

Somehow, every single time SJM writes about something I am very knowledgeable about, she gets it wrong. Archery, medicine, homosexuality, etc. It’s like she’s never existed in the world.
