I just finished Godfrey Muriuki's 'A History Of The Kikuyu 1500-1900' before I started Petals Of Blood and through almost every page, I appreciate that I read it. The subtext for this book is in there. Especially the second to last chapter in Muriuki's book where he elaborates on the prelude to British rule.

Petals Of Blood feels like a continuation of the history of Kikuyuland and Kenya too, during colonial rule.

The introduction is so dense and so I believe the book will be elaborate in the history.

I am almost finishing the book and what i love most in the story are the characters and how Dostoevsky developed them. The last time I appreciated a story with good characters is in Game of Thrones. Wow! Dostoevsky really has a way with it.

raskolnikov is mentally ill 🤒

Dostoevsky is so vivid in the descriptions and all so while being very engrossing. I am just getting into Book II and loved how he described the murder scene.
