Aaron is on page 42 of 150 of The Art of Loving God: Simple Virtues for the Christian Life
I have reread the first 35 pages of this book nearly every day for the past week because I want it to be so fully impressed upon my heart

So I've been watching parts of the movie alongside my progress in the book and I didn't realize just how much is cut out of the movie! I now resonate with the geeks who always moaned and groaned "the book is better! The book is better"
It's me, I'm the geeks.

I'm both irritated by and sad for Ron in reading how he responds to Harry's enrollment in the Triwizard Tournament.
JKR does a brilliant job capturing that interesting feeling of excitement & pride from achieving something great and the despair & loneliness that accompanies it when you have friends who wish it was them instead of you

Nu uh, I'd have to ball Snape and Malfoy up and stuff them in a locker or something... Attitude is atrocious!

Oh boy oh boy! I LOVE TO READ! So fun rereading this as an adult. The movie was my first DVD when I got my own room in middle school, so naturally I memorized every line. Now I can't help myself from jumping out of bed and tickling Sunny's furry belly every time I read a line that was quoted in the movie! Hehehe

Literally light reading before bed lol. I've been using this as a night time devotional. And hmm it seems I haven't tired of reading/contemplating death and my impending experience of it.
It's riveting and makes me feel terribly uncomfortable yet safe (and thrilled)?... completely out of my control yet remembering my death is the only true purpose to my finite life in view of my eternal one

I really love my Catechist and the guys I meet w/ on Sundays. Good people. The Catechism is edifying and transformative on its own, but studied in community makes it that much more.

***Like some others I've seen-- I'll plan to keep the Catechism in my "Currently Reading" indefinitely!

Helpful in reflecting on Mass at Our Lady of Consolation in CLT this wknd-- it was very Black in all senses of the concept lol (iykyk)

"Both owning and sifting can happen through ritual, a process in which 'our sense of who we are is shaped by what we do, what we make, and how we talk about ourselves.'
Black Catholics use liturgy to synthesize Roman Catholic Tradition w/ AA religious experience in parish settings

Cozy night time read! This is making up for a disappointing two weeks of "eschatology" in the theology course this semester

"'Behold, your mother' (John 19:27). Considering the context, this exhortation could hardly have been more urgent. Our Lord was in the midst of unimaginable suffering in order to redeem the entire world when he uttered these words that have echoed down through the centuries."

Pretty solid so far

Mister Umberto Eco... WHAT are you talking about here? It's like smelling the smoke of a candle that's blown out. There COULD BE illumination here, but I can't quite grasp it. Only a wispy witness:

"But is this purity?" I asked, horrified.
"There must be some other kind as well," William said, "but, however it is, it always frightens me."
"What terrifies you most in purity?" I asked.
"Haste," William answered.

Very thought provoking and provocative as a 21st century man reading this. I catch myself feeling giddy/nervous about how dominant societal attitudes would feel about this book. Pretty incredible how von le Fort uses sociology, history, art, and religion to comment on the symbolism and spiritual power of women. I'm sat.

Pages 376-378 was a riveting recap of Church History-- I learned more about the sacerdotal vs monarchical model than I did in 2 weeks of lecture

Heschel's focus on God's "Anthropopathism" is rich.
"There is a sorrow in God's anger. It is an instrument of purification, and its exercise will not last forever... Anger is not His distortion, but a state He waits to overcome."

Jewish commentary on the prophets has opened my heart in new ways. I love God and I love how God loves His people-- with passion and the idea of disengagement as inconceivable.
