I love it when a book starts with a recap...

Why is this suddenly about ivory.

I know I keep going on about it but the number of typos in this book is shocking. There's plenty of stuff on AO3 which has undergone more rigourous and effective editing.

"There is no way an entire guild of blacksmiths befell misfortune."

You're fucking right there's not. A misfortune could, however, befall an entire guild of blacksmiths.

Good god this book is shite.

If you told me this book wasn't professionally edited, I would believe you. Confusing 'eluded' with 'alluded' is particularly egregious.

I nearly called it a day on page 42 because this is really not a well-written book, both in terms of actual writing and of what the words are saying.
I mean, it's taken the space of half a chapter for our heroine to be kidnapped and just, like, resign herself to getting married to the king - a man about whom she knows nothing except he has a nice smile and a silly hat. That's literally it.

This story is so sweet it's disgusting. Pump it directly into my veins.

I'm currently enjoying this book far more than I expected to.

I know I don't have an older brother, but if I did and he called me 'Little Flower' I think I'd punch him in the throat.

I tell you what this book needs - more Benji.

I know it might not seem like it, given how slowly I've got through this (blame the Winter Olympics, it's turned me into an avid telly-watcher), I am really enjoying it.
The world building remains pretty mysterious but I love it. If anything bad happens to Wilhum I'll cry, I just want him to be happy.

I guessed that would be the solution. Don't ask me how, it's just raw natural talent I guess.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN THIS BOOK IS NEARLY 700 PAGES LONG.

This is not a spoiler because it literally happens on page 1, but at this point I genuinely cannot work out who shot who. This book is spectacular.

My favourite description so far is of a man eating a sandwich 'the way a German Shepherd would eat a balloon filled with mayonnaise'.

A 'Scandi Noir' version of Heated Rivalry, without the sex?

I wish to vent my annoyance at the writing, having just read a bit where Anji seemingly dashes down the same set of stairs twice within three paragraphs.

A summary of this book:
"You're meddling with things you don't understand!"
"Then explain it to me, please?"
"No."

Also if this is grimdark then I'm the fucking tooth fairy.

This is not a particularly well-written book. If this whole religious conflict thing is important to the plot then it would have been really helpful to explain it from the beginning, because currently I'm just slightly lost about why the fuck people are so het up.

I have read many well-written books, and unfortunately I don't think this is one of them.

This is a very odd book.

I was really enjoying this but all the misogyny is getting a bit wearing. Which I guess is the point but also it's tiring.

Hooked by the end of page 2.

'Nipples like dark holes at the centres of her breasts' is a description worthy of medical intervention.

I wish Ursa would hurry up and grow a backbone.

I don't think I'm cut out for all this whimsical poetic writing.
