Alice is an incredibly irritating character.

One thing I love about Pratchett is how on every other page there's a little throwaway line that's either terribly profound, incredibly funny, or sometimes both.

So far this book has not met my expectations (in a good way), so in order to continue this trend I hope that Kenna's friend actually is really dead, the Prince of the Void is actually a villain and not a potential love interest, and Kenna is resigned to a life of domestic drudgery.

I'm coming to genuinely resent Sylvia's chapters for keeping me from, I dunno, the characters who actually seem to develop the plot. This whole book could have been from Arin's perspective and I might enjoy it a lot more.

If I could skip every one of Sylvia's chapters, I would.

It's almost a relief that this book has something approaching an actual magic system.
