I loved Paulette Jiles' "Enemy Women" and am looking forward to her book, "News of the World." On page 20 and so far it's a pleasure.

Teresa is on page 126 of 240 of Nine Gates: Entering the Mind of Poetry
This book on the art of poetry writing is so rich it is not to be breezed through. I'm reading it slowly and in small sections, underlining, looking up referenced poems and poets, thinking, writing.

Teresa is on page 89 of 280 of Seeing the Real You at Last: Life and Love on the Road with Bob Dylan
Personal reflections on a fascinating time and place packed with well-known music people, with references to many famous musicians, performances and recordings. Interesting insights into the personalities of these people we all "know," but known personally by the writer, a musician herself.

Teresa is on page 80 of 336 of The Girl on the Train
This fascinating mystery's alcohol-impaired narrator makes this book unlike any I've read before...as her reality shifts and uncertainty mingles with absolute certainty about doubtful "truths," leaving the reader as off balance as "the girl on the train."

Teresa is on page 92 of 144 of New Capitalists: Law, Politics, and Identity Surrounding Casino Gaming on Native American Land (Case Studies on Contemporary Social Issues)
Very slanted study of Native American casinos, in favor of tribes & against local communities struggling with negative impacts. Locally-based, the author could easily have done a fair, unbiased study, at least regarding the Chumash. Instead, she inserts racist quotes by unnamed "local" sources & mischaracterizes & discounts a small rural community immediately adjacent to the casino, impacted by new crime & traffic.

Teresa is on page 139 of 432 of Runaway
This book, "Runaway," by Peter May, despite what happens in the prologue, is a slow starter, but I've finally been grabbed, almost mid-way through, by this road-trip of a story. I've loved May's Lewis Trilogy, so I've not wanted to give up on this book. Now I think I'm glad I didn't. We'll see...

Teresa is on page 95 of 274 of Reunion: A Search for Ancestors
I'm finding this true-life genealogy search as compelling as a "mystery" novel...It's been hard to put down. My own genealogy searches, like Littrell's, involve Scottish ancestry. My travels, like his, to ancestral places in Scotland and Scandinavia, make this especially readable. Much of what Littrell is finding of his ancestry as the book progresses (Missouri, Kentucky...) mirrors my own. Fun to follow his search!

Teresa is on page 32 of 400 of The Seeker (Damian Seeker, #1)
Enjoying this book while I wait for MacLean's #4 in the Alexander Seaton series to arrive & happy to see a character from that series appears here as well. 17th Century Scottish/English murder mysteries, intelligent adventures, by a Scot with a PhD in history of the period! (Diana Gabaldon, move aside...for now). & I'd never have found this author had I not visited a used book shelf in Inverness last fall!
