This is my third Sebastian Barry book, and he is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. I don't tend to love war novels (Pat Barker's Regeneration trio being an exception), but Barry is blowing me away here. Chapter 10, in a mere 9 pages, is about the best writing on the horrors of war, the power of brotherly comraderie, and an explanation for religion that I can recall.
