The first short story is called bettering myself. It’s about an alcoholic Teacher who’s losing her grip, and isolate itself in a bar. Isolation theme, defending a child. Odd. Holding onto an ex-husband, who eventually pays her to stay away. She’s lonely. In the story ends with her eating, pickled onions in a bar and rips up her letter of resignation at the school. “The sun shone on“

why did her family think pachinko was so terrible? her father, a traveling salesman had sold expensive life insurance policies to isolated housewives who couldn’t afford them, and Mozasu created spaces where grown men and women could play pinball for money. both men had made money from chance and fear and loneliness….

Listening to the audiobook and the narrator’s voice is generational, older… As if to represent a woman of maturity.

Spring! Strange book about a fictional village, Lapvona, governed by a strange Villiam, and The herder Jude and his son marek live in the fields below the guards and lord. Jude and Villiam are cousins, grandfathers were brothers but Jude’s grandfather did something to be thrown from any power. Marek is deformed and intellectually stunted, and kills Villiam’s son Jacob with a rock who falls off cliff.

Circe summoned by her sister to come back to the family. Immortal man sales to see her to tell her the caveat is that they have to sale across the streets Cilla.- the goddess that Cercy transformed into a sea monster. In order to get through the streets, she transforms herself into her brother and they are able to sail through without death. It’s really cool!

Hermes comes to visit circe…. One of the Olympian, gods, brother to Zeus.. he is the one that tells Searcy she has immortal‘s voice, and that she can sing. They become lovers.

Circe is banished to the forest, alienated all of her family, but they do not break her. She realizes her Pharmaca. She sees herself as a witch, the greatest power is transformation. She realizes this changing an acorn into a strawberry. After that, she makes friends with a wild lion and finds ways to merge with her true self.

Circe admits how she used the yellow flowers to turn Glaucus into a God, and Cilla into an ugly sea witch. By admitting that she has done this and defying her grandmother, her father-Helious, the sun god- exiles her from their world alone.

Circe meets with her brother Ietes, and he reveals to her that they both possess Pharmica” powers and that she is a pharmicus, a witch.

Circe turns Glaucous into a god…a sea god and hopes to spend eternity with him. Sadly, he falls in love with another sea nymph, Cilla.

Circe falls in love with a mortal Glaucus(?) and she goes to see her grandmother Tethys-and refers to her as “great nurse of the world’s waters. Born like her husband from the Dawn of ages from mother earth herself” to help this mortal. In exchange for blessing him, Circe’s grandmother 👵🏼 makes her swear that she will not lie with him….

Circe raises her younger brother IETES? And he grows up to be her best friend. He asks a wonderful questions like “how does iypur divinity feel to you? Circe answers the question…”a shell…a conch,…nothing. Air.”
