“ no place for good people”
This one is about a man who works with three men who are intellectually disabled… the R word is thrown a lot in this short story. One of them wants to go to Hooters for his birthday, but when they get there, it’s closed down. Again, talking about fat people and retarded people. Very not PC.

“A dark and winding Road” A man leaves his pregnant wife and visits his childhood cabin in the woods. Smoking marijuana makes him panicky and strange A woman knocks on the door, looking for his brother. They end up doing drugs together “ I let her do whatever she wanted to do to me that day in the cabin. It wasn’t painful nor was it terrifying but it was disgusting just as I’d always hoped it would be”

“The Weirdos”

Moon Kowalski is a pop up character. The narrator is livjng with her wannabe actor boyfriend who she can’t stand, yet can’t stand to leave. They talk about shooting Egyptian Crows, and he has a strange skull he rubs for good luck called “Skully”. St the end he loses all his acting drive and becomes a meth addict, and now “maybe he is the man of her dreams”

The first short story is called bettering myself. It’s about an alcoholic Teacher who’s losing her grip, and isolate itself in a bar. Isolation theme, defending a child. Odd. Holding onto an ex-husband, who eventually pays her to stay away. She’s lonely. In the story ends with her eating, pickled onions in a bar and rips up her letter of resignation at the school. “The sun shone on“
