Another 1500 pages of, “I’m not good enough,” “why can’t I save everyone.” Is exhausting

Especially years into a war, three books of resolving this arc, and being raised in a medical background

I swear Tom King is one of the most pretentious writers out there. Every “deep” observation could equally have come from the mouth of a 15 year who just smoked a pound

This is my second time trying to get through this book. It’s written so pretentiously. His Monomyth concept feels unfalsifiable, which isn’t a good sign of a theory. And he uses a lot of vague examples and words to say something really straight forward. It’s extremely eye rolling to read. I keep rereading sentences, not because he’s brilliant, but because he’s not clear and uses more words than needed.

Idk if they’ll include the backup stories as part of this volume but I’m not reading them anymore. Those first issue backup stories were a slog!

Incredible writing, great world building, good characterization, original for its time, waiting for something to happen
