The author is like "yeah yeah yeah wrap it up". The main detective keeps getting hit with a smart stick and everyone else is hit with the dumb stick with no explanation.

This book is a fun introduction to Brecht's work while explaining the history happening around him. It is very sympathetic to communism, which is refreshing. It is also harsh on the USSR and Stalin with no evidence or justification, which is stale, uncritical, and annoying.

I kind of like the random insert of personal essays but is it still the narrator speaking? It feels disjointed in that way.

I don't like the chapter titles like "the math isn't mathing". It's just cheapening it.
