I can’t tell anymore whether or not O’Brien is an ally being forced to torture Winston or if he’s a part of the party. And maybe that’s the whole point- maybe that’s what the narrator is trying to get the reader to feel. Not being certain what is real and what’s not.

And the mother continuing to poke and prod about it and tell Zoe (the 6 year old niece) that she thinks Claudia is getting a divorce- what is wrong??? - Not the time nor the place. And you don’t gossip to a 6 year old about something like that.

He asked her reasons for not wanting kids as though it wasn’t an opinion they both shared until he changed his mind. I can’t believe they’re getting a divorce. And they’re both acting so standoffish towards each other as if they haven’t been married three years.
