“…once they get it into their heads that I’m not normal, since they all think they are normal they’ll give me a hard time about it…” People truly believe they are normal. But normality is always shifting and evolving. Maybe that’s why people are afraid of different - just when they think they’ve figured it out here’s someone challenging that. This book is a heartbreaking POV from a neurodivergent.

What. This is unhinged and in a badly done way. Not a big fan of “running-from-the-law” tropes anyway, but I can acknowledge some like “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” types are engaging. But here we go from a man slowly deconstructing his faith, then a divorce as a result - to him kidnapping his son(??) And he’s going to Florida to find his lost brother who will “make it all right”? Lost me.

Really enjoying the writing style - reminds me of some of Jesse Stuart’s stuff. It’s a quiet, numb read. I’m not sure how to describe it well. But I truly connect with the character so far.

A slow, and to me, a bit disjointed start, but it started to pick up and I am now enjoying a few of the characters. A wide range of character types in this book. Though, I find many of their introductions to be tedious at times - it became a bit predictable when a new character was introduced they would have some tragic and depressing backstory. This is fine in of itself, but the predictability became grating.
