I went into this excitedly, but the last part I just read has made me quite frustrated. They were giving examples of tests between backward farmer Russians and Russians that were becoming more literate. They put the literate in good light because they could differentiate objects more readily, and put the backward farmers in bad light (because they saw how everything was connected and reliant on each other).
