Didn't realise this was going to have such a religion heavy aspect to it, I actually don't mind, but it does feel apt that I started reading this in a deconsecrated church in town.

Also I got this book because I was researching imaginary/impossible colours and came across a Wikipedia list of imaginary colours in media, one mentioned was Discworld with Octarine, and another was this one.

Ventured out of the house for the first time in over a week to collect this book from the library. I was actually watching a documentary yesterday about artists interpreting science and one guy was recreating/visualising this book in the California desert.

I got the pdf of this and searched for the word "God". There were 180 results, so I went through and censored it all, and started from the beginning 👍 Julia's a little too woowoo for me but I'll let it slide

Is this set in an alternate world where therapy doesn't exist??? Oh it's either pSyChoActIvE DruGs or eXpEriMenTaL bRaIn sCaNs for my autistic son, who totally just needs his access needs met and proper medical support team.

I reserved the 1818 version from the library and it's taking forever so I reserved another one, which turns out to be an earlier copy! So go me I guess

It's the earliest surviving draft that has been transcribed by the Ashmolean. Pretty cool stuff. They also have all of Percy Shelley's edits in italics so you can see what he did.

Oh yeah this is definitely one of the best discworld books, along with reaper man, can't wait to see where it goes next 👀

Sometimes I start reading a book and almost immediately know it's going to change my perspective. This is one of them for sure.

Ok so they've gone downwards, and for a while I thought this whole book would just be about rocks. About halfway through the book Jules starts cooking? Genuinely think he might have started taking drugs at this point.

Also I love my copy of the book, the translators have fact checked the measurements:

I'm starting to think it would be funny if it turns out there isn't a hole in the volcano/they get boiled alive in magma/something as equally anticlimactic, but I also am 99% certain that isn't the case because I've read the book before and I feel like I would remember that.

Read this bit on the train to Norwich, I've been looking out the window and I'm always surprised about how pretty East Anglia is 🥺 in a sort of weird grey flat way, but still cute

Read most of this at the palladium in the intermissions, and spent most of it worried that it looked like I was one of those people who "read" books to show how cool and interesting they are.

Currently in essay 7, it's a good one, essay 5 was good too, I feel like I'm starting to question stuff, but I don't know what the question is yet...🤔

Updating my reading progress from yesterday.
I read most of this in Faculty, New Street, my favourite Birmingham coffee shop, would recommend.

Also disappointed they haven't in fact, started their journey to the centre of the earth.
