What does it say about me that I’m reading one of the purest, mostly angst free, slow burns with a mmc with ALL THE GREEN FLAGS and… I’m kinda wanting to start something else… maybe with some conflict and drama and a morally charcoal mmc because apparently I thrive on that shit?? Never mind… pretty sure I don’t wanna know.

See, this is not the groveling arc I was hoping for. This is bullshit. I’m unimpressed.

Related, but equally important question… is this whole book centered around Chaol?

Sigh… I’m trying, I really am. I’m trying to care about Chaol and his plight. But he’s still a prick. Still a self righteous asshole. Does he get less so? Or are we just setting aside his horrifying personality and demeanor for the sake of story?

Can someone explain to me why Chaol is such an ass? Like… every time he appears in the story and I have to listen to his self-righteous bs, I wanna reach through the page and smack him. Am I honestly supposed to care about him and want to know his perspective of things? Because all it’s doing is making me despise him more. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Pausing this for now. I’m enjoying it quite a bit and am already INVESTED, but my fragile state may not be able to handle becoming more so without the certainty of getting a finished series. On hold until I know for sure an ending will be released.

If the narrator grossly mispronounces one more word in this book, I may have to stop the series. I cringe every time she says “Samhuinn” or “wyvern”. Which really shouldn’t happen as often as it does, but here we are. 😫🫣 The pronunciations are jarring enough to take me out of the story every single time.

Started over because I borrowed the audiobook this time.
