back reading this mess of a book for class and wishing i was reading the real antigone

actually third time is not the charm because dear god this reread is putting me through physical pain

so much better than the first book i read by gurnah oh my gosh glad i didn’t give up on this author

i did not anticipate how beautiful this book would be, the prose is genuinely so luscious and the characters are so interesting (also so funny that the wuthering heights reference did a 180 and hit me with lesbian affair)

this book is absolutely insane and has everything and i love it

rip my heart out in the first few pages oh ok alright

gasped out loud at the plot twist oh my god

this is even weirder than the great gatsby

“motherfucker sisterfucker your mother’s cunt your sister’s cock” is part of the linguistic brilliance of this former booker prize winner. and y’know what, yeah. why not.

dude i cannot keep crying over novels by south asian authors why would you make this character so real and so painful

literally twenty pages in and already crying anita desai how do you do it

on every page there is some form of hysteria and i don’t know if i should laugh or cry at them at this point

i thought i wouldn’t like this novel much because it’s in the 2nd person, however it is growing on me a little…

well i told myself i wouldn’t cry at this book again and i failed miserably
