This book is a revelation. The only problem is keep imagining Dakota Johnson as Anne Elliott and…she really wasn’t suited to the character AT ALL.

Felt like it was high time I read more Bengali books, and Leela Majumdar’s style is witty and profound.

The writing style is compelling but the jury's still out. Although I have a feeling that I won't like it much because he seems to be veering towards justifying rape and racial discrimination through the lens of "the perpetrators didn't know better!" But I'll give this one a chance.

This book of essays on Dahl is some brain-orgasmic level shit. The book on Rowling in the same series is damn good too. I love Dahl and after reading three essays on different aspects of his writing style and influences, I love him even more!

Going in I thought I’d enjoy the drawing room conversations and relationships more than the war descriptions and social commentary, but clearly I was presumptuous. Tolstoy isn’t exactly the master of romance (although his characters are lifelike and narrative voice witty). BUT he really shines in the way he describes the chaos of war and warring strategy and his social commentary is *chef’s kiss*

Finished Book 1, Books 2 and 3 to go. Still a rollicking good read. The war bits are rather wonderful, surprisingly.
I’m liking Nicholas Rostov’s character more and more. Andreyi is getting annoying. Also why do these dudes have to witness bloodshed and dead bodies of their fellow men to realise that war is bad? I will never understand the point of war.

I read one volume of Peace, and one of War. The third volume of Book 1 is about Peace again. There’s foreshadowing of war in the peace bits, and vice versa. It’s more enjoyable than I expected. The characters feel REAL. We all know a Vasili or a Pierre. Hell, I’ve been Pierre (minus the wealth). I’m crushing on Andreyi because he seems like the kind of emotionally unavailable dude I’d lose my head over.

Honestly this book is so entertaining??? I’m sitting in the library and guffawing every 2 minutes. Love how relatable the characters are, especially Pierre who uses philosophy to justify everything from his indecisive nature to his lack of discipline. JUST LIKE I DO 💀 Fun fact: Pierre was loosely based on Tolstoy!

This is another novel that has a wealth of wisdom in it, but EM Forster did not know his writing would be subjected to a generation that scrolls reels for approximately two thirds of their waking hours. I must be a better student and yawn less when Mr Forster makes an intelligent point.

This is basically a history book, packed with information. I’m trudging through like a determined little soldier. I’m learning a lot but my attention span needs to improve.

Bibek Debroy has an engaging style. He’s convinced me so far to learn Sanskrit.

Meaningless snobbery made me avoid Stephen King’s books. His book on writing is delightful and engaging. I need to stop being a snob to enjoy life. 😶‍🌫️

Pretty slow-paced. I like how the story is gradually building, though.

I am loving it so far. The dreary wintry moors really set the tone of the novel. Also Jane is such a traumatized child!
