‘Tess’ was my “bible” when I was in my 40’s. I loved it then and I’m loving it again. Once you get used to the old English style, the story leaps off the pages. The unfolding tale is heartbreaking . Tess was used and abused by one man and left bereft by another. Because I read it several times in the 80’s I know roughly what happens at the end. I’ll add to this comment once I finish reading it this time.
