Author is now having characters contradict themselves every other sentence. Cop mentions he doesn't want to "get canceled" over not doing his job, but he just explained it's the homeowner's responsibility to pay for rabies testing (??? Also) and only 2 people are in the room and neither are trch savy or have working phones either at the moment. Author unable to separate their feelings from their writing.

Chapters 1-3 could have been completely cut and nothing of value would have been lost to the story. So far the only thing I've learned is that Lou is an idiot with a crush on a man who happily pays her poverty wages and uses her guilt against her. Lou spends as much time thinking about how hot he is as how awful her life is. I am almost a quarter through the book.
