Hi! I know I don't have many GR friends but if you've been reading my reviews I've been on a sabbatical from Cymraeg for most of 2025. It was a real blow to my pride to drop out of Uwch 1, but I was burnt out and dreading every Monday evening. I'm hoping to gently pick things up again before Christmas and get back to enjoying it again before considering another course. I hope you've all had a great year so far!

I'm back this time. Honest.

Having some difficulties with the language in this one, and I'm not too hot on the protagonist. I'll persevere though!

Pennod 12 - no spoilers, but I'm wondering if Bethan Gwanas legitimately hates a certain name (given the same one has been used for adulterers with no moral compass in both Amdani and Blodwen Jones), or if it's just a coincidence. *shifty eyes*

Halfway through Pennod 10.

Pennod 3 - 9 over the course of a few days. I'm learning a fair bit of rugby terminology, and while sports-fic (and some of the colloquialisms) is a bit lost on me I'm still enjoying Gwanas's style.

Pennod 1 - 3. You can certainly see where Blodwen Jones came from! Very Gog, very conversational, with a good sprinkling of humour so far.

42 pages out of 89 and the setup/main plot mystery has only just been established ... hoping the pacing doesn't suffer for it.

Chapter 6. Compelling as it is, this is turning out to be a huge challenge, and if it weren't for being only 104 pages I'd park it until Uwch.

Aiming to complete one chapter a day.

Despite not *entirely* believing the naivety of the main character (which I'll go into in my review) given it was only published last year, this has ramped up to something very compelling. I look forward to the second half.

Reached Pennod 8 - really enjoying this now I've got the hang of the dialect and Llion's "voice".

Just reached Chapter 4 - the colloquialisms in this make it a tough read (dialect is very, very Gog) but it's enjoyable, very reminiscent of Cliffhanger by Jacqueline Wilson.

Third story done - Hawdd Cynnau Tan Ar Hen Aelwyd - the best one so far and great use of the proverb. Very Bethan Gwanas-type vibes.

Finished the second story - Cenedl Heb Iaith, Cenedl Heb Galon. A bit of an odd one, but does fit a more light-hearted brief.

Very surprised nobody's reviewed this yet. First story was interesting, and definitely steps above Sylfaen, although <spoiler>not humorous given the subject matter</spoiler> so perhaps the other stories have a different tone.

I was very fortunate to meet Zoe Pettinger this year at the Cwrs Dwys, so I've been looking forward to picking this up.

I've reached Chapter 7. It's 68 pages (not including the geirfa) so I'm just under halfway.

It's not got an amazing rating on GR (2.5 stars, highest rating a 3) so I picked this up not expecting much, but so far it's actually pretty good with an intriguing deuteragonist. Still unsure as to what the genre is though although I expect that'll develop.

Set in the Llyn Peninsula so lots of Gogledd Cymraeg.
