this is relentless. i keep picking it up so there's something about it that grabs me and it's an intense read but also bone deep exhausting in a way that makes me wish i had less of it to still get through. also just so much sex. i understand the point but after so many pages i do have to fight with myself to not skip some of it. there are only so many descriptions of blowjobs that won't make me zone out

god this really is some of the best writing ive ever read. the prose alone is so beautiful and pliable? something about the way it shapes the story is just so singular. and the way in such a short amount of pages toni morrison creates a world so lived-in and full and characters so complex and human.. yeah i need to read everything she ever wrote

god this would be so enjoyable if jane austen wasn't so allergic to making it clear who the speaker is. in some dialogue you can deduce it sure (tho if i have to keep going back and figuring it out that is just very immersion breaking so still. not a fan) but there are scenes with like a total of at least 5 characters talking and it just gets really confusing for no reason

the first chapter was so utterly beautiful and haunting and well written and worked so well as a self contained story that what follows isn't grabbing me and is a bit of a disappointment so far but i hope i will like it better soon. still i am worried that the author might just be better at short stories cause the pacing has been really weird after kaeda's story concluded
