A very unwelcome epilogue

Once the characters crossed over to “lovers” that’s all they did. All the other plot points fell away. Their first encounter sounded like in person phone sex, which was uncomfortable to read. Beck is yet another virgin with a decade of experience in sex.

Beck is a caricature of a character. He talks like he’s from the 19th century, has the sex drive and experience of a teenager even though he’s in his mid-30s, cannot handle a work conflict, is 6’5” which would get him dates on that alone. Oh and wears bow ties and long jonhs but also 70s style shorts.
Hazel’s background is not explored enough to warrant her name change and overall behavior.

Is this really sci-fi? Yes, there’s time travel but it’s in no way explained and there are no scientific plots at all. There are other books that include time travel that aren’t labeled as sci-fi but instead speculative fiction or even romance. Not to take away from Butler’s accomplishments but I don’t think this book would have the same classification now.

Why oh why would Dylan keep Marcus around? He’s the most toxic, spoiled, self-centered and manipulative character I’ve read about in a while.

I had to check how old Max is supposed to be because he’s written like a 40 year old and Tisaanah is written like a teen but it turns out he’s 29 and she’s 21 and speaking a second language.

This would’ve been better as a slow burn romance where Helen ans Grant slowly unpackage their emotions instead of the insta-lust trauma bonding.

Louis Philipe is a nightmare and I hated that whole section of the book. PTWD had me rolling my eyes.

Arabella has major Disney villain vibes. I’m sure it’s internalized racism and classism but damn, woman…
