This one’s slightly better than Angels of Caliban but it’s still so dry. How is it so dry? It’s three demigods sailing through an arcane storm! That shouldn’t be dry!

I’m not a fan of the first person style in this one but I’ll see it through 🫡

Ironically, this book is better and more enjoyable to read if you don’t read the footnotes. Reading the footnotes is what I imagine Fiona Apple felt like when she was stuck with a cocaine-high Tarantino in that theatre.

I’m lowkey disappointed.

The tone is all over the place; one minute we’re being told about the dark history of wars past and stories of executions and death… the next there’s drunken teachers falling from trees and comical nut shots. The YA writing style and the tropes are pretty undeniable despite what many say about it “not being YA because it covers dark topics”.

Giving it another chapter or two.

I’m enjoying it so far but I’ve been jump scared by how Young Adult everything feels so far.
