I'm re-reading Blood into Wine because I'm working on a prequel to this book. Stain of Blood will take place in San Francisco. Renzo will face a new villain, one who is charming and has a great deal of finesse. Victor Martin is a worthy opponent for Inspector Dante. I'm enjoying being back with my heroes - Renzo and Jackie. Stay tuned for peeks into the plot.

Can you imagine? I have never read Dante's Divine Comedy!
But - better late than never. I'm reading John Ciardi's translation, which I find pleasing. He was a poet himself and, so far, the verse flows in rhythm but is also clear and understandable. The Inferno is quite depressing - but - it is Hell after all. Thank goodness for Virgil, Dante's unflappable guide. We'll see if I make it through Purgatory to Paradise.

Not as well crafted as earlier Dirk Pitt novels, but still entertaining.
