At first I totally didn’t care about this short story because creature features are just not my thing….

As soon as we received vivid description of this human sized bug excreting an acid-like substance upon his dying father and then going and eating the sludge that came from his fathers melting insides….I was actually so shocked I could not put it down. SCARY

that opening sequence was actually insane oh my god how CREEPY i hope the rest is as unsettling 🫣

I knew there were would be frightful stories but this is a different form than what I was expecting. A story so blatant with its allegory, yet so touching when told behind the eyes of a damaged little boy.

One line struck a chord in particular: You get an astronaut's life whether you want it or not. Leave it all behind for a world you know nothing about. That's just the deal.

the more i read this series the more i feel like im going crazy along with the main character im OBSESSED like genuinely im reading and im like “…but is this really what’s happening 😵‍💫” and it is so rare to be caught up in that kind of feeling !! YASS !!

John Green is just such a treasure. I already listen to the Dear Hank and John podcast, so having this piece narrated by John feels like an extension of the pod.

I think mr. tumblr 2014 is the only person on earth who could make me tune into a book about an illness that I previously could not have cared less about.

this is written exactly the way my brain’s thought process works: from one thing to another to another, never really finishing a thought, sarcastic quip, a curse word here and there, another thought, a threat, and then another thought that vaguely connects with what was spoken about initially.

I enjoy listening to this audiobook. It is easy to digest and full of fascinating client stories and how Dr.Yalom decided treat everyone.

Of course there are some things that I would not do, like acknowledge that I would date a client were there not a professional relationship between us both? 😭😭 But that truthfully has to do with my being a woman and not wanting to open that door period.

chapter 18 went CRAZY

hazel is SO DUMB and gavin is DEFINITELY SOMEHOW GUILTY OF SOMETHING BUT PHEW THAT CHAPTER HAD ME 😮‍💨😮‍💨 and the way gavin immediately switched gears after a whole chapter of him charming her BOOM SHAKALAKA YES GOD WHAT A MANIPULATOR I KNOW HE’S UP TO NO GOOD

86% of the way through and sloane is still the most annoying character in the book.

yes i liked the sexy vampire making eye contact with our main character as he drank blood

no i can’t say these positives are worth the self-pitying dialogue i must endure every page

i thought that sloane would have had a change of character by now but she has not and i’m getting annoyed. she is so annoying and blames naomi for everything as if it’s not 1000% obvious that this is really all sloanes fault bc SHE was the one who decided not to stay with the other vampires. additionally, i hate this trope of “oh i could never kill another human” girl ur a VAMPIRE figure it OUT.

oh man what a delicious read.

i always find it hard to put myself in the shoes of someone who idolizes another but the writing is just so damn intoxicating and i am so excited to see where this goes
