This is so aged but a good story. There are pay phones and phonebooks and video cameras that take 8mm tape and TWENTY FIVE inch TVs. Also, a million dollars went WAAAAY farther in the 90s (obviously).

1. Luke is trying to convince people to leave a town (they should definitely leave) because with every second they wait "our chances of getting away clean get less." GET LESS.

2. A religious order is on its way to kill the above-mentioned people and they drive a mack truck that plays Ride of the Valkyries. A bit...heavy handed, no? Not to mention the gas thing, in that 6 years on YOU WOULDN'T HAVE ANY.

Ah, yes, magic gas. The kind that never runs out or goes bad, even after 5 years.

Listening to a man who has intentionally murdered multiple people and intentionally started a forest fire (that also killed people) say “that hurts like heck” when he’s hit in the face is so unserious and I can’t even.

I’m not saying you HAVE to swear, I’m saying “hell” isn’t a swear and also that “OW THAT HURT” would be more effective and less funny.

I think the author is Mormon.

The idea that a medical doctor would say about a man, lying unconscious on the floor for minutes, in a pool of blood from a severe head injury, basically "I'm sure he's fine" stretches incredulity to the absolute extreme. I'm more likely to believe in LITERAL ZOMBIES, which this series has not included. Like if the forest fire (of which we know the cause) turns out to be from dragons, I'd say "sure" before that.

The entire time I was reading this (well even when I started the series) I was thinking Torchwood: Children of Earth and it’s not the SAME but I’m not wrong. I’m not sure I could recap what the eff actually happened but I’m not mad or anything, it was still a good story.

I like this book but Wyn is fucking cruel. I’m basically at the part where I’m about to find out wtf but his behaviour has been fucking mean and he’s dicking Harriet around so much it makes me furious.

She texts her friend, then remembers he’s on a date so she shouldn’t bother him. So she texts again to apologize for texting.


This is not a well-written book

Every woman who is not the FMC is an enemyyyyyy

“I was dripping wet when I wrapped my towel around me and stepped out of the shower.” Yeah, if you showered that’s how it works. So many sentences are like this, sharing absolutely useless info in totally unnecessary ways.

The FMC has just dropped a coffee carafe and it hits the ground and shatters. She *thinks* about picking up a piece and hurting herself. Her friend walks in as she’s reaching for the glass and he freaks out. “You were reaching for it!” Meanwhile, THATS HOW YOU CLEAN GLASS UP. There is no reason for him to jump to suicide instantly.

Chapter 9, decimate again 🙄

I’m in chapter 2 and decimate has been used twice *on the same page,* once to refer to a pandemic that killed THREE BILLION PEOPLE. That is not decimation I will never get over this just say “obliterate” or something because I will die on this hill UGH

This guy is a comically evil capitalist, and a shitty father and husband. I can’t believe he’s being celebrated like this.

Also Joan Allen is a good actor but a TERRIBLE narrator

This is not very skillfully written, and it's about as subtle as a sledgehammer through a window, but it's something to listen to while I'm working so

All of the reviews of this book so far are so uncharitable and mean. If there's anything that convinces me that what he's saying about the palace is true, it's the way excerpts have been de-contextualised and mis-quoted to present him as this ridiculous asshole completely lacking in self-awareness. He's just a dude who's been emotionally neglected his whole life, trying to get free, from what I see.

Maybe he did write this? "Sometimes it was explicit and sometimes it was right in our faces."

This is well-written but I HATE this book.
You know when you have a friend who is just making HUGE mistake after HUGE mistake and is completely delusional about the quality of said mistakes (i.e. thinks they're not mistakes)? And when talking about it, excludes important details so as to appear more sympathetic? That's this. Kit's a victim but also a fucking idiot. And the book description is a lie, so far.

This book is like Mad Libs. Have you seen the YouTube video where the guy is like “this is what English sounds like to non-English speakers”? That’s this book. I read the words. I see they are English. I cannot connect them in a way that makes sense yet and I’m dying.

So a girl has just died. Someone applied acid to her violin, which somehow didn't manage to impact the violin in any visible way but was strong enough to burn THROUGH the skin on the girl's neck, through her "AORTA," and leave her bleeding out on the stage.
