As Valentine’s Day approaches, the prompt to write myself a love letter is intriguing

p 604 It was wearying, trying to adjust to all the paces life required.

A chapter about a frontier woman who is not a whore - a first- on page 600 - but goddern it- I cannot hate on this book as much as I want to.

Onto part 3! That last chapter was a doozy

I was upset at the end of chapter 58 - put the book down and felt like crying- because I had GROWN TO CARE ABOUT THESE CHARACTERS- I didn’t want to read on - how can the book be where it is and where is it going? I’m going back I today….

This chapter about Call - “caused him to wonder if his life had made sense at all”

First death of a current character - the art of perspective shifting during the scene has a huge impact - starting with the character who is youngest - moving to the oldest - and how they deal with death - masterful!

Every character is in the move and the tension is palpable! Elmira’s leaving stirring the town folk is hilarious! Roscoe is such a mouse! Love it all!

Chapter 27 was one of the single best chapters introducing a new character that I’ve ever read.

Onto part 2 …. The relationship between the two main characters is so interesting
