Reading this slowly and consequently thinking about it a lot. His blend of fact and fiction, I love. Reminds me of other Mexican contemporary authors, Jazmina Barrera for one. I always learn so much while being totally captivated by their stories

Working my way through the Julia Wertz library. She’s a great amateur historian!

Zadie is such a heroine. There’s not many that speak their truest of true minds so broadly and so insightfully yet pull it off so magnificently every time.

This book feels precious and I don’t just mean the words in the book. I mean the size and shape of it how it fits in your hand. It feels like holding someone’s journal. And then the words contribute to that, it’s an intimate look inside a Pastor‘s relationship to Emily Dickinson and his country. Loving it

Freddy is starting The God of Small Things
There are some books that feel like you’ve discovered your own personal bible, a sacred text that defines your soul. When I read The God of Small Things in the early 2000s, it connected me to something essential I felt like I’d forgotten along the way. Now I’m rereading it after listening to Mother Mary Comes to Me read by Arundhati, which is equally as affecting.

I’m pretty sure the translation is not as poetic or fun as the original in Portuguese, but the story is still dang good and I’m hooked!

Mindfulness is what brings us back in touch with what's happening in the present moment in our body, in our feelings, in our thinking, and also our environment. It enables us to be fully present in the here and now, mind and body together, aware of what's going on inside us a and around us. And when we are very mindful of something, we are concentrated on it.

All of us need to have a spiritual dimension in our lives. We need spiritual practice. If that practice is regular and solid, we will be able to transform the fear, anger, and despair in us and overcome the difficulties we all encounter in daily life.

Waking up this morning, I smile. Twenty-four brand-new hours are before me. I vow to live fully in each moment and to look at all beings with eyes of compassion.

Great Spirit Father! You who raise the sun and moon! You who bring life and warmth to all things! Help me! For I move in cold and darkness! I see only ashes of dead fires! Open my eyes that I may see your light! Warm my soul with your fire! For without your help I cannot live!

You who have power over the earth and all creatures! I am weak an filled with despair! All joy has gels from my heart and I tremble, here alone! Give me strength that I may lift my head!

O grandfather! Hear me! I am weak and helpless and bowed with grief! Help me! O Great Spirit Bear! Hear me! You who have always granted others your strength when I asked it! Now grant strength to me! For I shake with fear!... You whose heart beats with life eternal!...give me your courage! For my courage is gone! My heart cries out in dread! O help me! For I cannot face the morning!

Gazing upward, she felt her spirit drawn up into the boundless magnitude of the sky, into that majestic, eternal serenity stretching above the earth whose vastness diminished her world, made herself less than a speck. She became bodiless, drunk with space, enraptured with the immensity of the heavens, pierced by its awful beauty.
