Chapter One, Hazel

Bought a physical copy of this book at 2nd and Charles for $4.75 lol. I love the other book by this author I have read, it’s a top favorite of mine: Love and Other Words.

The opening sentence of this book is: “Before we get started, there are a few things you should know about me: 1) I am both broke and lazy- a terrible combination.”

People are incredibly similar and different at the same time. We all have the same basic structure of mind and emotions, but we have distinct mental conditioning because no two people have experienced the same exact life. The twists and turns, the reactions we have felt, the things we have understood and misunderstood, all that we have come to believe, how we perceive ourselves and the world, the maze of ….

Who said you need to be the smartest person at the age of 20? Who said you need to be happy right now? Who said you need to be sad right now? You are in absolutely no rush to do anything in life. Slow down. Take it easy …. There is no rush in being happy; it takes time, and it takes work. And the day you stop and ask yourself, “what’s the rush?” is the day you start living and stop rushing through life.

They don’t deserve you. But you probably don’t believe me when I say that, because you may not believe that you are good enough …. They aren’t meant to be in your fucking life …. You must understand that the people who surround you today that you call friends or loved ones are supposed to be there. The ones that have left you on your journey were meant to leave. They were not meant to be in your life ….

I am waiting for peace, I am waiting for comfort, I am just waiting for the unknown at this point.

To find peace in life, you need to find it in yourself first.

I am addicted to the idea of finding my soulmate.

Then I watched a show called How I Met Your Mother …. This show inspired me to expand my life to include people, and open up to develop new friendships. A show that taught me heartbreak, sadness, how to be happy again, how to live with an ex, and how to be the nicest person in the room. It was there when I needed it most; it was there when I went through one of the toughest parts of my life when I felt so ….

When your path gets darker, step back and try to figure out how to create light.

That could have been me. Occasionally I think of how my life could have been depending on the paths that I chose and the ones that were provided for me. …. I am beyond thankful I live the life I live right now …. The path is something we all work for and all hope to find one day. I am sorry to break it to you, but you aren’t looking for the path, you are on the path right now. Your path will move ….

I am now thirty four years old, and just realizing that by not trying, I was failing before I even gave it a shot.

Hiding depression from yourself. This is not a common issue that is talked about, because the majority of people do not even realize that they are doing it. I am very thankful that I have the willpower in me to understand my depression & know when it is going to hit hard, & when it is giving me a break. It is still something that I cannot truly explain to the average human, but I understand it for myself pretty well

I started keeping more to myself, and only handling my friends’ problems and issues, rather than sharing my own …. I became my own personal therapist, which happens to be a gift and a curse. My friends never realized that I didn’t share anything about my personal life until I stopped talking to them. They started thinking of me when I wasn’t thinking of them. You’re probably reading this believing ….

You are going to go through your ups and downs, your twists and turns, and you are going to solve things you didn’t think you’d have to. Those will be your toughest times, and once you conquer them, you’ll think they are over when they are far from it. A lot of the problems we deal with will reoccur in the future, and that’s not because we didn’t solve them earlier on. It is because some things need ….

I love the way this book is written and I love the characters quirky personalities 😊

Sometimes you envy the people who are good at smiling during moments of hell, but I don’t think you understand how beautiful it is that you are willing to cry and visibly break when your world has been flipped inside out. Your honesty is inspiring.

The frustration is a sign. The way you force yourself into silence whenever they upset you is a sign. Listen.

I saw people running but I just stood there frozen in time, afraid but stuck. A fire began, the smoke detector screamed, the dirty air filled my lungs. But I wouldn’t leave that burning house.
