Many instances of sloppy copy editing (which takes me out of the story). "Shown" instead of "shone," "double-ought" instead of "double-aught."

Reading this because of the excellent AMC miniseries "The Terror" and the Dan Simmons fiction book of the same name (reviewed earlier). Had to get a recent book to get the "real" story, since the latest discoveries were made as late as 2016. Looking forward to learning how they discovered what little we know about the lost expedition.

As a total coincidence, "We Are Not Ourselves" (a novel about a 20th century Irish-American family) arrived at the same time. Starting nonfiction first.

Love this from the prologue of "A Fighting Chance." "But I'm here to fight for something that I believe is worth absolutely everything: to give each one of our kids a fighting chance to build a future full of promise and discovery."

"Danger might be described as when you're caught behind the eight ball. But real danger is when you're caught behind the eight ball and didn't even realize you were at the billiards table." Great line.

This is the book that the new (and excellent) AMC series "Turn" is based on.

What a compelling read about a real-life adventure hardly anyone knows about. And the book was originally published in 1959! I get cold just thinking about what these men endured. Highly recommended.

Hands-down my favorite author of narrative non-fiction. Just getting started and I'm hooked.

Science fiction used to be the only thing I read (and was how I met my husband), but I haven't read a novel for years. We're attending Worldcon (the world SF convention) next weekend, so I picked up one of the Hugo nominees. We'll see if I still enjoy it.
