The first chapter of The Hobbit was “An Unexpected Party”, and the first chapter of this was “A Long-Expected Party”. Neat.

The scene with Bilbo and Gandalf arguing was really good, and the writing is amazing. I just hope Frodo ends up being more than Bilbo 2.0.

That was a lot of lore, names dates and all.

What have I gotten myself into, I’m going to be studying this world I swear, I already feel like hanging the map on my wall because it’s all so cool.

This is probably my favourite play.
It’s just so witty and funny and I love all the characters so much.
Also Lucky’s single line is probably the single hardest line to memorise in theatre.

Smawg was really cool but the fact that he was killed by a single lucky arrow leans further into my point that I think this book’s plot relies a bit too much on lucky chance.
But Thror’s turn is also very cool.

Bilbo and Co. are either extremely lucky of extremely unlucky.

Like, they either get kidnapped by Goblins and lose all their supplies because they sat in the wrong cave, or they manage to escape capture from the elves which happened to be the only possible way they could have succeeded.

I get stories are based on this kind of stuff, but it’s kinda extreme here.

Beorn is best character.
The Mirkwood bit is great, except I find it kind of weird how Bilbo suddenly becomes this ultimate warrior, running and jumping around, swinging his sword and butchering hundreds of spiders. I get that his character has been developing into an adventurer throughout his journey, but he suddenly jumps from burglar to hero very quickly out of nowhere.

The riddle rap battle was cool.
The odds of Bilbo finding that tiny ring in that massive cave system is absolutely minuscule, but I guess that’s the point.
The eagles are nicer than any real world nation period.

Something tells me the mysteries did the universe aren’t exactly easy to find out.

First fantasy book ever here we go.
Great balance between writing detail and also pacing of the plot. Tolkien manages to richly describe every character and location without getting bogged down in unnecessary explanation (*cough cough* Ian McEwan)

I think the possibility of God starting the universe is the same as the Big Bang starting the universe, because they are both equally unexplainable.

Robots and automation could replace many people’s jobs.
Being constantly connected could distract people from life tasks.
Of course there is concern of personal data leaking.
Things like drones and 3D printing could be used for crime and terrorism.

Determinism is really interesting. The idea of being able to find the history of the universe just from positions of objects is awesome.
Also it was in The Restaurant at the End of the Universe.

We are nearing the 4th industrial revolution.
Technologies like VR, AR, 3D printing and smart members have made all industries more efficient and productive.
Data and digital twins allow the things like engines to be analysed for faults.
GPS allows tracking.
The network evolves with fog topologies.
There are also ethical problems:
Hacking and random ware
Errors causing damage.

Actuators (motors) allow automatic actions based on data.
Gateways and messaging middleware help communication the light true IoT.
5G provides better latency, range and density, so it’s a big deal for the IoT.
We do need standards though also everything is just a mess.
Reliability is important so people don’t die.
We also have to put data into context to work best.

I have never heard of the concept that nothing actually moves or changes and we just think we see that. I don’t really understand it to be honest.

IoT is built on 7 layers of hardware and software.
There are lots of different ways to transfer data over the IoT, such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Ethernet.
Sensors have been developing over time to become more advanced and useful, such as MEMS sensors.
Chips have also advanced, and now there’s things like Edge AI chips which store everything directly on the processor, making them super fast.
