The book posits that the omnipotence God is dead. The new god is human and the only relevant religion of modern times is humanism. Harari set forth this hypothesis as his basis for the history of tomorrow. Enjoying the book although I do not personally subscribe to his arguments. God is dead is a conjecture.

i wish the research journals that i have to read are as interesting if not more than the books on my TBR list.

readers are torn on this long awaited fiction. you either love it or you don't. i agree the novel jumps from one theme to another that it feels like they are a collection of short stories put together. but maybe that is exactly her point. we all have our own battle and yet, we share one collective story. i must also say i enjoy listening to her narrating the book, particularly the Urdu couplets!

This book has a LOT of information on human history but I'm not sure I will mark it as life-changing. Having said that, I can see why it appeals many. So far, i find it well-written in the sense that the language is easily understood and engaging even with the constant flux of information. Although, those who are looking for a scholarly, in-depth discussion in this book might be bitterly disappointed.

I'm saying yes to Peri's thoughts and she's saying everything that I feel and think. Well, not everything, but a number of things. Things that are left unsaid for fear of condemnation.
Thank you Elif for penning them all down, for approximating accurately what a confused, ever-seeking person has in her mind.

Membaca novel ini bagaikan membaca kisah orang yang dekat dengan Abah, kisah sana-saudara di kampung. Mana tidaknya, 'Kampung Banggul Derdap yang kaya dengan kemiskinan' (pada tahun 1966) itu terletak bersebelahan dengan kampung arwah tok. Latar cerita novel ini dekat di hati.

Reading poetry is a luxury, an indulgence in itself because it requires patience and slow-reading to examine and understand the meaning. Poetry reminds us that language is sacred and that the eloquence of mind lies not in the number of words but rather the ability to convey meaning through words.

Highly engaging. Now on the chapter of the very poor view education. The saddest truth is studies have found when the children from poor families / lower caste (in certain cultures) are reminded of their status, they tend to perform worse.
