I grew up on stories glorifying the death of Jim Elliott at the hands of native people. Martyrdom and spreading the Christian gospel was heavily glamourized in the evangelical bubble of my child/teenage years with no regard given to the aftermath of colonialism and cultural erasure. I am so glad that more and more native peoples are sharing their accounts of the true impact missionaries can have on a people group.

I'm not terribly impressed yet, but my SIL loves this series so I'm going to give it at least until the FMC makes it until the forest before I call it quits.

I have started this book three times so far... Every time I pick it up again I remember nothing from the night before. Here's hoping 4 times is the charm. 🤞🏻🤞🏻

So far this is just meh, but the person voicing Eric in this audiobook is incredible. Having a crush on a disembodied voice seems fitting considering the subject matter. 🤣
