I took a class like this in college but it was lowkey more swagged out and gayer than this book could ever be..

Really important London Lore(2) is that I read all two dozen Oz novels by LFrank Baum before even reading the Harry Potter series so it was incredibly formative and I still have dreams about dwarves mining for ore and queen Lurline. The novel is engrossing and very different from the screenplay, the politics/world-extending combo is exciting !!

[Bravely] .. instead of co-opting what the internet has to say about this book and making it my opinion I’m actually going to read it and think critically about it

Loving the chapter about Marosa Di Giorgio following Clarice Lispector following Simone Weil and I feel like women writers being so innately good with the grotesque and having such a handle on what makes things bone-chilling (I have a lot of opinions about her work but a man could never write any Ottessa Moshfegh text) and the interpretation/rewriting of the Eucharist as something horrific but still holy was so good

I thought reading in spanish would make it more interesting but at the end of the day you can be a supremely talented visionary, auteur, director etc. and you’re still a guy writing about his meditation practice. Yawn
