Aaaaaand.... Will DNF this now, the current scene is really not what I want to read.

Oh, to eat potatoes with butter, watch a bunch of spider children dance a jig and then fall asleep in a hammock by the fire (which is seen to through the night by the cricket).

Maybe the book with the best storytelling and the most beautiful writing ever?! It feels even better than "The Fifth Season" so far. I'm completely mesmerised.

Just rereading one of the best and weirdest books ever

Reread time!!!

I've just started this book and have rolled my eyes so many times already that I think I need to stop reading this.

I have no idea what is going on in this book. Nothing makes sense, lots of people getting murdered (several times, didn't know that was possible but here we are) and now there is a lion? It's great stuff.

Please, I beg you, give me a main character that is less rigid in their ideas how the world works, doesn't run away all the time when presented with new information and trusts the people who clearly have their best interest at heart.

I have this now at my desk at the office so I will slowly read through the poems during my tea breaks :)

"My present self is formed almost completely of the people around me. I am currently made up of 30% Mrs. Izumi, 30% Sugawara, 20% the manager, and the rest absorbed from past colleagues."

It's a new year so I will once again attempt this book

Look at me, having loads of new books to read but choosing to reread this one. But it's one of my favourite and I love Selin and want to record my life the way she does because it's hilarious and weird in such a mundane way. Also, I wish I had a Svetlana in my life, sometimes I need that energy.

Let's take a minute and all collectively think about how much we hate Paris (can't say that any other men is particularly better on moral grounds but ugh, this guy)

Work is exhausting, I'm exhausted, I need an easy to read book without complicated world building (I really want to read A memory called Empire but my brain is saying no) so this will be it. It's fun so far.

"You could ask people to be brave, you could ask them to be kind, you could ask them to care, you could ask them to help; you could ask them for a thousand hard and painful things. But you couldn't ask someone to deliberately trade themselves away completely, everything they had and might ever be, just to give you a chance, when in the end you knew you weren't any more special than they were." Oh, El.

Starting too many books right now but who am I to resist when encountering sentences such as these: "One didn't have to be a rocket scientist to make a donut. But that didn't mean it didn't help."

Started the year long read along on substack (hosted by Simon Haisell), one chapter a day, with daily discussion threads, weekly recaps of the chapters and a character wiki, which is very helpful. The first chapters have been captivating and surprisingly funny so far.

So far, it seems like the perfect summer book: it reads how it feels like to sit in the sun, thinking thoughts with an unclear destination, just meandering around.

It's only supposed to be released in a few days but for some reason I already saw it in the American Book Center yesterday so I had to get it and I am VERY excited.
