literally no idea why i started this, the pit and the pendulum is one of the most terrifying stories ive ever heard, and i knew that going in

only just started but wow this writing is beautiful

sort of glad mrs. montague is there, i can take a break from being scared to be supremely Annoyed instead

for all the differences between the show, this is still so unsettling in its own right, and i think the line above really encapsulates the vibe of the show anyway

very different from the show, but ough my heebies are already jeebied

it wasn’t a big enough problem for an environmental anomaly to appear and kill a bunch of people, so the staff at the southern reach all said “fuck it, let’s just all manipulate each other”

already the intro is talking abt how in the wake of the first trump admin, with the threat of a second looming, the story of southern reach offers a perspective of “multifaceted decay and the psychology needed to survive it”in a time where“transformative infection, [is] warping body and mind and environment and institution”

everyone strap in, i think we’re in for a doozy

klune does a really good job portraying exactly what it’s like being surrounded by kids who want to ask you a million questions and who say incredibly scandalizing things that catch you entirely off guard

i can feel this becoming one of my favorite books
