So far, Sells commentary is fantastic and provides historical and linguistic context to the Quran.

The beauty of the Quran is not in its translation but Sells helps highlight its poetry without needing a background in Arabic.

An excellent point made in class: only about 15% of Muslims speak Arabic so by approaching the Quran in translation, we are engaging in the tradition shared by the majority of Muslims.

This book has been phenomenal so far. The metaphors used to describe Lily’s emotions are perfect. I’m a Michigan boy through and through but I truly feel connected to this southern girl’s experiences and emotions. The rest of the characters are very real in their own ways. To add to it all, I simply love a good “kid runs away from home; what’s next?” story. This book fulfills this desire perfectly.
