because the first 100 pages were all character focused, this could definitely count as a slower book, but I'm honestly not complaining. I've grown invested in the characters' traits and personalities and how they unfold through their time at hill house

such beautifully haunting prose. despite it being a bit slow for a few pages, now that everyone's settled in, my eyes were GLUED to the book

I quite literally just started this, but I'm already liking it a lot more than I thought I would. I appreciate the short chapters and love Shirley Jackson's writing style, the words flow easily, therefore the book reads smoothly and comfortably. The vocabulary is efficient without being too abstract. I love the short but descriptive character introductions

I'm not even a nobuhachi shipper, but GOD I WISH SHE'D AT LEAST STAYED WITH HIM

I'm not a fan of the winnet/sorcerer anagram tbh, although it fits the narrative, I feel like it appears very randomly and goes on for too long, disrupting the prose.

The writing can be very confusing, especially in dialogue, but so far, I'm invested in how everything is unfolding and finding too much to relate to
