Books like this make me hate reading new authors. I LOVE exploring fantasy worlds, creatures, and magic systems. But this book is making me absolutely crazy with how truly awful the writing and editing is.

I created "obnoxious writing style" and "authors to avoid" shelves for this book.

A. The overuse of splitting sentences up by word per line.
B. I can appreciate a well-placed explicative, but when *fuck* is all you use to describe extreme emotions, it gets old, fast.
C. Raeve has a habit of picking at the skin near her fingernails. We get it. Like Celaena picking at her nails with a dagger. Stop reminding me.

The summary caught my interest, and I was excited to read about this new steampunk with magic fantasy world. Unknown magical invasions of winter werewolves? Sign me up! However, a third of the way through, I was extremely disappointed to realize that Simon is basically written as Sherlock Holmes. Ick. I'll continue to read it, as the premise and world is quite interesting, and skim over the Simon parts.

I can't get past the strange/bad sentence structure and overall clumsiness of the writing. Shelving as abandoned, maybe one day I'll come back.
