An interesting start with plenty promise! I do wonder how the narrative framework of two coexisting written journals will work, but after getting used to it the story is flowing pretty seamlessly. That being said, it doesn’t always feel like I am reading a written account which is mildly distracting at times. I am looking forward to this one however!

I’m realising I don’t love Dickens’ writing style. The story is told to us through a third-party omniscient narrator (who refers to himself in first person) which makes me feel rather distant to the story. This as well as convoluted description and occasionally dialogue that uses far too much text for what is happening.

Only two chapters left so I’ll most likely finish this tomorrow. I think it’s only really hit me recently how much I have enjoyed this book and especially the character dynamics within it and there is something sad about leaving that, in a similar feeling I had for finishing Pride and Prejudice. I wish Grace and Rocky were real

I’m listening to the audiobook for this purely because of its short chapter length so I also have something to listen too if I don’t have a time for Project Hail Mary’s 30minutes. I’ve now completed part 1 of 5 - it’s fine 🤷🏼‍♂️. I can kind of see why it took off on Booktok, but I’m not really getting much from it personally. Super easy listen though so it’s unlikely to be a DNF.

This first night of reading and I only read 10 pages. But it’s a pace that I wouldn’t be surprised to continue as it fits the slow meditative tone set up so far. Within these opening pages is so far just living in the setting, with writing that feels well represented by the cover. The setting of story is painted in lived imagery and its intimate prose makes me eager for more even if just for a few pages a night

Andy Weir is taking his time with his world building and character. Two decently sized chapters have been spent with the focus of our protagonist just trying to remember who he is and why he is here and I love it. The sun is dying and there are aliens, we are a teacher, and have kids and for some reason the developments of each of these discoveries is making me weirdly emotional? There is already a strong connection
