Perfect so far

After all, since the world began, we've been eating each other. If not symbolically, then we've been literally gorging on each other. The Transition has enabled us to be less hypocritical.

If a person with a first and last name can be eaten legally, and they're not considered a product, what's stopping anyone from eating anyone else? But the government didn't stipulate what was to be done with the meat because it's meat no one wants to consume, not if they know where it comes from and have to pay market value for it.

Horror story at this point.

He doesn't ask her anything. His sister's words smell of detained humidity, of confinement, of intense cold. She keeps talking.

Solid one, the doom and gloom of cannibalistic future and human slavery made me start reading it. The prose is light, even though the dystopia in itself is not strongly built.

I love this one, but enjoy reading it slowly!

You’re selfish. But she wasn’t, not really. She had no obligation to love me in the way I loved her. I wanted to say, You broke my heart that night. But that was unfair, too, since I hadn’t even told her how I felt about her.
I wanted to say, I love you and I’m going to kill myself soon, and I am so sorry for how that will hurt you.

I heard the irritation in her voice and wanted to cry. She didn’t understand. She wasn’t like me. She was fully alive. She knew how to dream and wish and want. I was empty.

"I do,” Cass said. “I really, really do. I’m so into her. She’s such a happy person. So full of life. It’s contagious.”
I nodded quickly, even though neither of them could see me. I was so . . . not that. I dug my fingernails into my fingertips.
“That’s great,” I said.

Avery needs to put two and two together and Cass deserves so much better!!

I turned away from her to face the sky and felt the wind on my skin. It hurt, but I let it. And I could only think two things:
I love her, I love her, I love her.
And:
She’s better off without me.
I don’t know which thought filled me with more sorrow, or if they were separate thoughts at all, but I didn’t have time to decide.
