It’s very clear that Gutzan idealizes Jefferson and holds the Virginia dynasty in high esteem. The bias runs throughout this book. I found parts exasperating, especially his limited discussions on slavery in the U. S. during the period, as well as his dropping little blurbs (Jefferson and Mrs. Walker, Monroe setting the stage for the ultimate extinction of slavery) without any explanation

Guzman believes he’s very intelligent and his quips in this book are aimed to make we know this belief.
